Since the day I put on my first pair of Pleasers, I’ve wanted to find a way to give back to this community that embraced me so openly. Pivoting from writing about first hand experience “How To’s” of the industry to important insurance information has been exciting. Mostly because there isn’t a place that is trying to make this easier for us as adult entertainment independent contractors. Speaking about insurance directly to us in terms we can relate to allows me to give back in such an enormous way.
For those who haven’t seen it, Genea Sky (who is an amazing seasoned dancer) lost her grip and fell from a 15-foot pole fracturing her jaw. I danced for 10 years uninsured. Looking back, especially after seeing that video, I cannot begin to explain how lucky I was. At any point that could have been me and I was in no way prepared for it. Certainly not financially. While you can’t predict the future, you can prepare yourself for the unknown. If there is one thing to take away from that viral video, it’s the importance of securing yourself in any way available and possible.
Personally I find it sad that there is no prior circulating knowledge around this for our industry. There aren’t any infographics about the importance of insurance in the locker rooms. There sure is a fuck ton of rules and manager comments hung all around the back, but where is the actual information that we NEED? With the tragic video of Genea Sky going viral it was time to try my hardest to educate this industry on the options available for them.
If we don’t stick together and support each other, no one else will. It is up to us as a community to take care of one another. A huge part of that is sharing knowledge and helping spread the word of insurance far and wide. Genea has hit her goal since the Go Fund Me was created, however I encourage anyone that would like to help to still donate. You can do so by clicking here!
