Wasting no time in his new role, President Joe Biden makes headlines this week with plans to reopen the HealthCare.gov insurance markets. What does it mean for us adult entertainers exactly? This gives people who don’t have job-based health insurance exclusive access to coverage during the pandemic. You may not understand it yet, but we are living through history in the making!
The special enrollment period will not go into effect today, when the president is rumored to be signing the executive order, or even immediately. Time is needed for the responsible departments to create a campaign, communicate with insurers to prepare for the wave of new customers, etc. This last open enrollment period saw an increase of about 7%. Although a slight increase, still an increase nonetheless and with another opportunity to sign up I can only hope at least another 7% finds coverage.
It is important to note that our last president refused to reopen the federal exchanges to allow more people to get health coverage. Meanwhile, many states that run their own health exchanges did extend their enrollment periods last spring in response to the pandemic.
In preparation for what is to come, I invite you to look over some of our past articles and familiarize yourself with some health insurance terms. Trust me I know adulting isn’t fun. Nobody wants to spend their precious time reading a boring ass, dry health insurance pamphlet. It has been my pleasure to take this snoozefest and relate it in our terms, to our lives. Stay tuned for an update on what to expect after this executive order is signed.
